Can we have both a civil marriage and an Islamic Nikkah?

Yes, and most couples do. I can perform both, either on the same day as one continuous ceremony or on separate dates. The civil ceremony is what makes the marriage legally recognised in Australia; the Nikkah fulfils the Islamic requirements. Doing both through one celebrant means the paperwork and the religious side stay aligned.

How much notice is required before a civil marriage?

Australian law requires a Notice of Intended Marriage to be lodged with an authorised celebrant at least one calendar month and no more than eighteen months before the ceremony. I can help you complete and lodge it. In limited circumstances a prescribed authority can shorten the notice period, and I will tell you if your situation may qualify.

Can an Islamic Nikkah be performed online?

Accepted Answer

Yes, where the Islamic requirements can properly be met. The bride, her wali and two Muslim male witnesses join by video, the mahr is confirmed, and the offer and acceptance are made. I check each requirement with you before confirming a date. An online Nikkah is a religious marriage only and does not create a legal marriage under Australian law.

Do you provide marriage counselling?

Yes. I offer premarital counselling for engaged couples and ongoing counselling for married couples, covering communication, finances, family expectations and conflict. Sessions are available in person in Sydney or by video anywhere in Australia, for couples or individuals.

Do you provide spouse visa support letters?

Where I have conducted or can properly verify your Nikkah, I can provide a signed letter confirming the ceremony, the date, the parties and the witnesses, in my capacity as celebrant. I will ask to see the underlying documentation first, and I only issue letters for facts I can verify.

Question 6

Do you travel throughout Australia?

Accepted Answer

Yes. I am based in Sydney and travel interstate for ceremonies. Travel outside the Sydney metropolitan area is quoted separately depending on distance and whether accommodation is required. Counselling and documentation matters can usually be handled by video.

What documents do we need to provide?

For a civil marriage, both parties need photo identification and evidence of date and place of birth, usually a birth certificate or passport. If either party has been married before, you will need the divorce order or death certificate. For a Nikkah, I will confirm the wali and two witnesses, and the agreed mahr.

Can the ceremony be held at our home or venue?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Ceremonies are regularly held at family homes, reception venues, masjids and outdoors. Tell me where you have in mind and I will confirm what is needed for that location.
